Your support and contributions will enable us to carry on Lisa's legacy
Lisa’s Legacy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit originally created to continue to fund and grow the Lisa M. Milonovich Scholarship for Nursing Education through the Children’s Medical Center Foundation. The fund provides annual scholarships in pursuit of nursing or advanced practice nursing education for employees of the Children's Medical Center of Dallas. In 2017 we expanded our reach to graduates of Bridgeport High School.
CHARITY TIMELINE
About Lisa
Lisa Milonovich was an exceptional and dedicated nurse and nurse practitioner at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas for 27 years. Lisa wanted to be a nurse since she was a very small child. That was her only hope, unlike many girls, who change their minds many times. No ballerina dreams for Lisa, nursing was her dream, pediatric nursing to be specific. At Bridgeport High School, Lisa focused on as many sciences classes as possible and was a member of the Medical Careers Club. She often credited her high school Chemistry teacher for getting her through her first year of Chemistry in college. She received her Bachelor of Sciences degree in Nursing from the University of Akron in 1984. During her final year of college she fell on the ice, and as she sat in the emergency room waiting for her wrist to be set, her only concern was whether or not she would be able to continue her clinical work. Post graduation with honors, Lisa went to work in the pioneering field of pediatric liver transplant at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Lisa relocated to Dallas to continue her work in that specialty at Children's Medical Center. She spent time at CMC as the liver transplant coordinator taking nursing shifts in addition to her full time role. She missed direct patient care and eventually returned to full-time patient care. Lisa also worked in the Critical Care Unit at CMC. At the request of Children’s, Lisa pursued her graduate degree studies at the University of Pennsylvania to become a Nurse Practitioner. She returned to CMC as soon as she completed her graduate work and became a team leader for a team of Nurse Practitioners in the Critical Care Unit. During her many hospital trips as she battled her illness, Lisa continued to display her passion for Nursing. While a patient in the hospital, she would often encourage individuals working as nursing assistants, whom she felt were exceptionally bright, to purse nursing education. To honor her passion, her family, with the help of her friends, have established the Lisa M. Milonovich Scholarship for Nursing Education at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. Lisa’s Legacy is a 501c3 non-profit established to continue to grow that scholarship fund and extend the reach to Lisa's High School alma mater, Bridgeport High School. These funds will enable many to carry on Lisa’s legacy of exceptional nursing for many years to come.
